The Booking process ...

If you’re anything like me, you think the planning should be as fun as the actual vacation. And since I reserve my energy for carelessly wandering the unknown destination, I am a devoted fan to Expedia. You can have your own favorite, but I totally recommend using this kind of help when booking a vacation. The convenience of having everything in one place (airfare, hotel, rental car and activities), and the peace of mind that somebody can take care of any emergency (never an issue, in my experience), it’s worth the try. And yes, the package discounts are real. And yes, sometimes, it’s worth exploring the “local flavors” like the low cost airlines in Europe (Skyscanner does the trick for me in this case). So ... let’s book that trip!

1. Begin your odyssey by envisioning your dream destination, of just your next escape. If adventure is your vibe, check first where and when unique events are happening, and start from there. Venice is magical during the Carnivale in February, and Vienna is a fairytale during Christmas season. Consider your travel dates and budget.

2. Summon the Travel Wizards at Expedia.com (or any other travel search engine). Behold the mystical portal where flights, hotels, and car rentals converge. The packages will always be more convenient and cost efficient, but feel free to experiment outside “the box”. Your budget will dictate your direction.

3. Flexibility is your secret weapon in the dance of travel booking. If your schedule permits, be open to tweaking your travel dates. You might just uncover hidden gems of savings and availability. Consider alternative airports, different days of the week, and embrace the serendipity of spontaneous travel decisions. I found that from US to Europe, Wednesday and Thursday are the cheapest days to fly, and from Europe to US, Tuesdays.

4. Once you've found the golden ticket to your dream destination, it's time to seal the deal. Review your choices, and make sure you feel great about it. If in doubt, give it a few days. Don’t book on Friday, Saturday or Monday. Wait until the middle of the week, or until the price is right, for YOU. But don’t wait too long. The earlier you book,, the better the deal you get. In my experience, never ever the prices went down closer to the travel date.

There you have it, intrepid traveler! Follow these enchanting steps, and you'll find yourself on the path to a hassle-free and magical adventure. May your flights be smooth, your accommodations divine, and your travel tales legendary!

Planning and Packing ...

Booking is probably the most time consuming step when planning a vacation. Then planning the activities day by day, is only building the excitement. The packing of the bags makes it all so real, that I can’t barely sleep days before my trips. Think of your vacation as the wild card for any craziness that you don’t normally do, within the reason. Plan to immerse yourself in local traditions. Attend a cultural event, participate in a local ritual, or learn a traditional dance. It's a fantastic way to gain a deeper understanding of the destination. Always try the local food scene. Forget calorie counting; savor the flavors and let your taste buds be your tour guides. Bonus points for trying dishes you can't pronounce.

Now ... let’s pack those bags ...

1. Roll with It: Instead of folding your clothes, roll them. This not only saves space but also minimizes wrinkles. Plus, it's like giving each garment a tiny, snug hug. A win-win for both efficiency and wardrobe morale.

2. Build timeless outfits that can go from day to night with little to no effort. A scarf can transform into a stylish accessory or a makeshift blanket, and a versatile dress can go from daytime exploring to a chic evening ensemble. Less is more when each piece is a fashion chameleon.

3. Shower Cap Shoe Shields: Keep your clothes pristine by using shower caps as shoe covers. Place your shoes inside the caps to prevent them from making direct contact with your neatly folded attire. Your shoes might be made for walking, but your clothes don't need to know that.

4. Organize your belongings like a pro. Categorize your clothes, accessories, and toiletries into nifty cubes, making it easier to locate items without turning your suitcase into a chaotic abyss. It's the Marie Kondo of travel. Don’t forget that the toiletries will most likely be taken off at the security check.

5. Digital is the New Heavy: Embrace the digital era by using your smartphone for maps, travel guides, and a camera. Make sure you have all the chargers, the adaptors if you are traveling abroad, plus backup batteries and extra memory cards if you have a separate camera. A power bank/portable charger for your phone is a must. You’ll need it. Make sure you have Internet wherever you go; it will keep you sane and connected.

May your travels be light, breezy, and filled with the joy of efficient packing. Happy adventuring!

Relax and Enjoy ...

The trip is booked, the bags are packed and I’m on my way ... To the airport, that is. Unless we’re talking about a road trip, all, if not most of the travel adventures start in an airport. Once the sliding doors open, I leave behind everything that doesn’t bring me peace and happiness, and you should do the same. These bits of wisdom below will help you ease into that blissful vibe that people call amazingness, lifting the burden of the unknown and the anxiety of the tremendous thoughts that things might not go as planned. Let the voyage ... begin!

1. People-Watch Extravaganza: Airports are bustling with a diverse cast of characters. Find a comfy spot, grab a snack, and enjoy the entertaining show of fellow travelers. That’s one of my favorite things to do in an airport, as I always arrive waaaay before my flight.

2. Dive into a good book or start a journal. The airport is an excellent place to catch up on reading or document your upcoming adventure.

3. This one is a savvy, but procrastinator planner habit, very useful before a flight: load up your devices with movies, TV shows, podcasts, and games. Create a personalized entertainment buffet to keep boredom at bay, in flight, and during layovers.

4. Embrace the Unplanned: Allow room for spontaneity. Some of the best experiences happen when you let go of strict itineraries and go with the flow.

5. Tech Detox Moments: While smartphones are handy, consider having moments of tech detox. Put your phone away, look up, and take in the scenery. Capture memories with your eyes, or a real camera, not just your phone camera, as handy and convenient as it may be.

6.Learn a Local Tradition: Immerse yourself in local traditions. Attend a cultural event, participate in a local ritual, or learn a traditional dance. It's a fantastic way to gain a deeper understanding of the destination.

7. Get Lost on Purpose: I know. This one makes the blood pressure rise for many people, but trust me, this will make your journey so much more worth it. Take a wander without a set destination, but alway have your hotel name and address, or any other close by landmark in your google maps. Getting lost can lead to hidden gems and unexpected discoveries. Try to keep it within populated and safe areas. The best stories come from the unplanned detours.

Remember, the purpose of travel is to enjoy and discover. Let go of the need for perfection, embrace the beauty of imperfections, and allow the journey to unfold organically. Happy travels!
